  1. What inspired you to get healthy?
39th birthday – not wanting to go into 40 fat, anxious & depressed!

How long have you been living a healthier lifestyle?
    10 months!

    What is your favorite exercise?
    Weight Lifting – Arms

    What is your least favorite?
Weighted lunges (I can’t get my form right on those and I have zero balance!!)

When do you work out (morning, noon or night?)
a couple months ago, just switched to mornings and it’s seriously changed my life as I knew it would 😉 (not a morning person AT ALL)

What is your go-to healthy meal?
    chicken stir-fry

    What’s your favorite healthy snack?
    protein drink & fruit

    Do you count calories?
I did for a while to learn how much I should eat, but then I got lazy and now I estimate

Do you allow yourself a cheat day/days?
Nothing scheduled, but I sometimes allow cheats during fun things (I try to NOT do this when I’m sad — no such thing as comfort food for me ha)

Do you meditate? I pray. But I want to start meditating too, I’ve been reading about all of the benefits, although centering my mind in prayer is a lot of the same thing.

Do you use positive affirmations? If so, which one do you use the most?
I recite verses sometimes, like I can do all things through Christ!! Plus, sometimes I say things to myself, like “you got this, you can do it” etc. ha

    What’s your biggest motivator?
That’s a good question… and I would say I started it to be a “healthy-fit person” as part of my identity (verses just yo-yo dieting/working out off an on), but then it morphed into wanting to have the perfect body, and then for a while my gym crush was my main motivator haha (truth here), then now it’s back to wanting health and fitness, plus, the ability to surpass the norm, I want to move and live in the athlete world, however that looks for me. I think you have to continue to keep what’s motivating you in check, because that can turn unhealthy or too extreme. So trying to focus on healthy goals and balance, but still kick ass at the same time.

What is your biggest fitness/health accomplishment?
Losing 40 pounds the past 10 months, increasing my strength and endurance physically and through this, pushing through a lot of mental stress, anxiety and depression that had previously existed – although this is all still a work in progress, & God is just as much in it as fitness for me.

What is one thing you wouldn’t give up (chocolate, coffee, etc.)
Not one, but two 🙂 Chocolate & popcorn!

What’s the best advice you’ve received about being fit and healthy?
Don’t exhaust yourself doing hours and hours of cardio. When trying to build strength and muscle, focus on heavy, progressive lifting (you can switch this up later to sometimes high reps, sometimes heavy lifting once you have built a strength base)… keep cardio to 1-2 hours of HIIT a well in the beginning, while building base muscle (I do a variation of HIIT), and at least once, figure out what your TDEE is, and then how many calories you are supposed to be eating to fuel your body according to it, as well as the amount of other macronutrients (protein, fat, carbs) you need. This was a game changer, realizing that I needed a lot more protein, a lot more calories, a lot LESS fat (even from healthy fats, like avocado, nuts, and healthy oils) Keep track of this, at least for a while so there isn’t any guess work (like, I THINK I’m eating healthy or the right amount of calories) then you can estimate later, but it’s an amazing tool to really take control of knowing if you are fueling your body properly and/or if you are attempting to lose. (cut 20-25% cals lower than your TDEE for healthy 1-2 lb a week weight loss). I found all of that out at muscleforlife.com, they are an amazing resource.

Hope this encourages & happy Friday! 🙂

    • I definitely agree with prayer being similar to meditating. I found myself talking to God a lot when I was taking a mindfulness class. I love your honesty about what motivates you haha! Completely relatable! I am definitely going to check out that website, thank you for taking the time to do this and comment 🙂

  2. What inspired you to get healthy? – I was inspired because I felt unhappy, and thought that a healthier me would lead to a happier me (and I was right :)! )

How long have you been living a healthier lifestyle? – I’ve been on the journey for about 2.5 years now!

What is your favorite exercise? – ooooh this is a tough one … right now probably lat pull-downs!

What is your least favorite? – anything for back delts lol! I find them so awkward!

When do you work out (morning, noon or night?) – whenever I have time!

What is your go-to healthy meal? – Chicken salad!

What’s your favorite healthy snack? – half a canteloupe is one of my favs!

Do you count calories? – I have during this challenge I am currently doing, but not regularly

Do you allow yourself a cheat day/days? – I call them “treat” meals, and yes I have them every now and then!

Do you meditate? – Not currently!

Do you use positive affirmations? If so, which one do you use the most? – Nothing specific. But sometimes when I’m having a hard day and I have something I need to do, I just tell myself “I’m gonna do it – whatever it takes!”

What’s your biggest motivator? Myself. Taking care of myself is an expression of self-love, and that’s why I have continued on this journey. I want to be and see my best!

What is your biggest fitness/health accomplishment? This might sound weird but I think my biggest accomplishment has been simply sticking with it. A lot of people get into it but give up. I am in it for the long haul!

What is one thing you wouldn’t give up (chocolate, coffee, etc.) – COFFEE. I enjoy it so much – and I need two cups in the morning to get going!!

What’s the best advice you’ve received about being fit and healthy? – To do it from a place of love, and not a place of hate. If you hate on your body and “punish” it with fitness, you will not see the results you desire. But if you do it from a place of love, and you nourish and encourage your body, amazing things can happen!

    • I think I’m really going to have to spend some time with your advice about self love, it definitely struck a chord. Thank you for commenting and filling this out. I too love coffee and lat pull downs!
